My Darklings

Hi Everyone!
Most people keep Rhinoceros and Stag beetles, but personally one of my favorite types of beetles are darkling beetles! They live longer than almost any other pet beetles, they come in many different shapes and sizes, and you can create a nice sized community of them in a decent sized tank. Here are pictures of my 13 darkling beetles!
2 Asbolus verrucosus pairs

2 Asbolus laevis
Female Eleodes armatus

Female Eleodes acuticaudus

2 Cryptoglossa variolosa
2 Eleodes dentipes

Male Eleodes tribulus

Hope you guys enjoyed the post as always, until next time, good bye!

  2. Thanks! The A.laevis are definitely really cool with their flat, wide body shape, wide head, and dark blue coating they get on them.

  3. Upon looking back at your photos, I'm pretty sure that "E.acuticaudus", is just another E.dentipes. Just thought you should know!

    1. I'm pretty confident on my I.D of E.acuticaudus since it is much larger then the others and you can't see it in the picture, but it actually has a pair of spikes on the first set of legs. lol

    2. Yeah, dentipes can also have spines on their front tibia, several Eleodes species can. Size is also REALLY variable with WC Eleodes, so size isn't a reliable identifier either.

I'm 95% sure it isn't acuticaudus, would have to see a dorsal image first to be 100% sure though.

    3. Ah, didn't realize about the spines until I took a look at bugguide again. :/

I'll send you a dorsal through Facebook PM shortly. :)
